Within the framework of this program, the Institute encourages risk governance and crisis management research projects. To that end, IPOLGOB profits from the outcomes issued by the ongoing R&D Project “Gestión Integral de la Seguridad Portuaria” (GISPORT) (“Management of Harbour Security”), and by the projects “Estudios de los modelos de prevención, gestión y evaluación de las catástrofes medioambientales en zonas costeras” (“Studies of prevention, management and evaluation models of environmental disasters in coastal areas”) and “Estudio de los agentes no públicos y de la conectividad de los medios de prevención, gestión y evaluación de catástrofes medioambientales” (“Study of non-public actors and connectivity of prevention, management and evaluation instruments of environmental disasters”).
Furthermore, this program also incorporates the post-graduate studies in the field of security that are part of the Institute's academic activities: Master in Safety and Security Management and Security Manager Advanced Course, Specialist in Management of Civil and Local Security Advanced Course and Special Program in Training of Security Managers. All of them lead to official University Carlos III Courses and/or official Professional Qualification. For the successful teaching of these courses our University has been awarded the Security training SEGURITECNIA Prize in 2000. It has also won the National Security and Emergencies Award in the training field granted by the business group EUROSEG in 2006.
It is important for the Institute to make a good academic use of the security plans models that have been designed during the development of these post-graduate courses. Internationally, these models are very innovative and Carlos III University can be proud of the research efforts made in this area.
