  • Intelligent System Lab (LSI) UC3M research group has launched a promising collaboration with the high-tech start-up SigmaRail, incubated by ESA BIC Madrid Region - UC3M Hub. SigmaRail brings an innovative solution to the railway industry composed by intelligent UAVs and nesting platforms enhancing traditional tasks such as signalling, maintenance and surveillance of the rail corridor. Image recognition and advanced satellite navigation techniques are the backbone of the company.
  • We are proud to announce that the LSI team has qualified for the Second (and Final) Round of the Didi-Udacity Self-Driving Car Challenge 2017.

    The developed algorithm has ranked 19th out of over 2,000 registered teams. It is able to perform both detection and tracking of several vehicles in 360º. Moreover, it operates in real-time (~10 FPS), thus being suitable for self-driving applications.

  • On 25th October 2016, D. Martín and J.M. Armingol were part of the team who got awarded with the "Madrid Regional Award" in European Satellite Navigation Competition.
  • On 9th September 2016, Carlos Guindel was awarded with the "Best Reviewer of Computer Vision Award" from the XXXVII Jornadas de Automática.
  • On 26th May 2016, Noelia Hernández was awarded with the "Extraordinary Doctorate Award" from the University of Alcalá in the Engineering and Architecture area.
  • In May 2016, LSI was cited in the Summer 2016 edition of the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Magazine Vol. (8) No. (2), as the ITS Research Lab. It is published here.
  • On 2 Feb. 2016, LSI launched "Introducción a la Visión por Computador" MOOC Course over EdX platform. You can register from here.

  • On 10 Dec. 2015, Dr. F. García got the "Intelligent Transportation Systems Society Call for Educational Activities" from Intelligent Transportation Systems Society (ITSS, IEEE)
  • On 26 Nov. 2015, Dr. F. García was awarded with Third Place for the Best PhD Thesis Award for the period of 2013-2015 from Intelligent Transportation Systems Society (ITSS, IEEE Spain)
  • On 17 Nov. 2015, Eng. A. Hussein was awarded with Best Student Paper Award in the 10th International Conference on Service Operations and Logistics, and Informatics (SOLI2015, IEEE)
  • On 14 Oct. 2015, Eng. J. Carmona published his first Journal Paper at Sensors 2015, entitled "Data Fusion for Driver Behaviour Analysis".

  • On 23 Sep. 2015, Dr. D. Martín was interviewed by Carne Cruda radio station about autonomous vehicles.

  • On 15 Jul. 2015, M.Sc. Eng. M.J. Gómez has been granted with the "Formación de Profesorado Universitario" (FPU) scholarship for pursuing her PhD in our Lab. Her excellent grants and experience allowed her to get this fantastic support from the Spanish Government. We are honored and glad to hear this breaking new. Congratulations!
  • During the period of May - June 2015, LSI professors attended a course of how to act in front of the camera. The sessions were given by by the well-known Spanish actor: "Pepe Viyuela".
