José Luis Torrecilla-Noguerales is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute UC3M-BS of Financial Big Data. His areas of research are functional and functional and high dimensional data analysis, classification, dimension reduction and variable selection methods, measures of dependence and machine learning. His present research work includes functional variable selection, optimal classification rules and analysis of functional datasets in biomedical settings. José Luis obtained his B.Sc. in Mathematics and Computer Science and his M.Sc. in Mathematics and Applications and Computer Science: Artificial Intelligence from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. From 2010 to 2015 he developed his Ph.D. Thesis entitled “On the Theory and Practice of Variable Selection for Functional Data” under the supervision of José Ramón Berrendero and Antonio Cuevas at the Department of Mathematics (UAM) where he was granted with post-graduate scholarships, including FPI. As a Ph.D. student he was involved in different research projects and teaching tasks, and he spent three months as visiting researcher at UC-Davis.
Torrecilla’s research experience also includes different positions at the Institute of Knowledge Engineering (2007-2010) and a postdoctoral research position at the Machine Learning Group at the Department of Computer Science (EPS-UAM, 2016), as well as the membership to the Functional Data Analysis working group (SEIO). This research has produced different communications in important conferences and workshop and several publications in internationally recognized journals.
