Biography

María Luengo is an Associate Professor of Journalism at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, where she teaches and conducts research in media theory and journalism. Her research adopts a cultural sociological approach in its examination of the media in the context of the independence of the civil sphere from other, more materially dominant, power spheres. She has co-edited The Crisis of Journalism Reconsidered: Democratic Culture, Professional Codes, Digital Future with Jeffrey C. Alexander and Elizabeth Butler Breese (Cambridge University Press 2016) and co-authored Periodismo social (Social Journalism) with Juana Gallego (Síntesis 2014). Her research has appeared in Media, Culture & Society, Journalism, Journalism Studies, Fudan Journal of the Humanities and Social Sciences, and Revista Española de Investigaciones Sociológicas, among other journals.
