Yolanda Bergel Sainz de Baranda, professor of Civil Law at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid graduated in Law at Universidad San Pablo CEU in 1998 and also obtained a Diploma in European Law.   In 1993 she went to King's College London for an LLM and graduated with honors in 1994 in "International Business Law" .  She then worked at the prestigious Law firm Uría Menéndez until 1998.  In 2000 she studied for her doctorate and in 2008 she obtained the degree of Doctor at Law with the thesis "The sale of works of art. Private Law problems" with the qualification of sobresaliente by unanimity.  The thesis obtained the doctorate extraordinary price of the university.

As professor she has taught practical lectures in all Civil Law subjects (Introduction, Person's Law, Contract Law, Law of obligations, Civil liability, Rights in rem and Family and Succession Law).  She has also taught the undergraduate course Introduction to Patrimonial Law in Spanish and English for which she published "Handbook on Civil Patrimonial Law" in 2011 (2nd edition in 2016). At postgraduate level Professor Bergel teaches at the Master in Law of the Regulated Sectors and co-ordinates the subject "Common Law in Perspective (II)" in the Master in International Advocacy. She has also taught in the Master in Intellectual Property and in the Master in Research in Law of Culture.

Her investigation interests cover different subjects, basically Contract Law (focus on Energy Law and Art Law), Law of obligations and Tort Law.  She is member of different projects and investigation groups. She is currently a member of the Project financed by the Spanish Ministry of Education "Services contracts: towards a new regulation within European Law".

She speaks fluent English, French, Italian and has notions of Chinese.

On February 8, 2014 she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Örebro Universitet (Sweden).

- Professor Bergel is teaching the undergraduate course "Contract Law".

- Coordinates the undergraduate subject "Introduction to Civil Patrimonial Law" and the subject "Common Law in perspective" (Master in international advocacy)

- Teaches the course "The electricity market and consumers" in the Master in Regulated Sectors.

- Coordinates the international relations of the Master of Intellectual Property.
