Information

Which factors fostered the economic integration of East and Southeast Asia after the opening of the ports in the 1850s? Was economic integration in that region bigger during the First Globalization years thanks to the Colonial Powers’ policies? Maybe in an opposite way to the usual patterns the countries in East Asia started to trade more with each other in a period of De-Globalization as they were the Interwar years, supported by developmental Japanese Imperial expansion. All this questions are addressed by Alejandro Ayuso in his PhD. Dissertation by constructing exports and imports databases disaggregated according to products and countries and exploiting the margins of trade of Japan as main power in the region. In addition to his research activity, Alejandro also exercises a teaching position in subjects like Economic History, History of the World Economics and Social and Political History. He is also the organizer of the Work in Progress Seminar which takes place periodically and is devoted to the presentation of diverse research works that haven’t already been finished.
