Roberto Garvia

I received my Ph.D. in Sociology from University Pompeu Fabra. I earned an MA in Social Sciences from the Juan March Institute, as well as a BA in Sociology from UPSAM. Currently, I’m enrolled in an Executive Master’s program focused on Data Science and Big Data (AFI Escuela).

I am a sociologist specializing in the quantitative analysis of social behavior and social events. I currently work as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Sciences at the University Carlos III of Madrid.

My academic research examines occupational patterns in the labor market, particularly occupational mobility, career paths, and workplace inequalities. My other interests include organizational characteristics and occupational well-being. My work has appeared in Social Forces and Sociological Perspectives, among other academic journals. I am also on the editorial board of Gender and Society, as well as the lead researcher for AIRBUS-UC3M’s study on company health, welfare, and performance.

My current research focuses on big data and data science. I’m particularly interested in the study of social networks, machine learning, and natural language processing Recently, I’ve been using social media to conduct an experimental investigation into talent retention.
